NGL I love that our sonnet complements itself so perfectly AND YES I AM PERFECTLY SERIOUS ABOUT THIS BY THE WAY I THINK THE WELLESLEY COMMUNITY WOULD BENEFIT GREATLY FROM MORE ORIGINAL PLAYS AND CONSIDERING YOU ARE THE BEST PLAYWRIGHT (oh my god look your name is even part of the word CLEARLY IT’S DESTINY) I KNOW I THINK THIS WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT THIS, YES.

Brief thoughts on ‘Snow White and the Huntsman.’

I was pleasantly, nay, ecstatically surprised at the quality of SWATH. I disagree with the majority of critics who say the film was slow-moving; the art direction really stands out and I think there’s a difference between a sluggish film and one that takes its time so you can actually enjoy the world they’re trying to build for you. The visuals truly are worth ogling over, even if the CGI is a bit inconsistent at times.

But the best part, to me, is the revisionist, feminist angle. Women taking charge, women taking action. Women standing toe-to-toe with men, not just in the two female leads but in important secondary characters as well. Women having courage when men falter. Women being leaders without having to compete with men. Men following women without questioning her ability because of her gender. The lack of gendered, romantic love (and lack of love triangle, despite the situation) as a major factor in the womens’ decisions and the subversion of the “happily ever after” being dependent on the tradition of male rescuing female. I was just thrilled.

Kristen Stewart has also finally endeared herself to me, which is a huge bonus, and I actually think she pulled this role off well. While she’ll probably never be one of my favorite actresses, I can see why she was chosen for this role beyond trying to rake in the Twilight demographic. I hope teenage girls will take a lot more in from Snow White than they do from Bella and I think I would actually consider SWATH to be a more progressive film than even The Hunger Games when it comes to gender roles.

After my FEMINIST FEELINGS settle down, I’ll probably be able to give you a more balanced critique but for now, I am definitely glad I decided to see the midnight premiere, I would totally see it in theaters again, and I am going to buy the hell out of it when it comes out on DVD.

ok guys guess which one of these is a girl-positive message:

  1. girls don’t have to have traditionally feminine skills or interests to be gr8
  2. traditionally feminine skills and interests are for losers who suck

IT’S NOT HARD

My first reaction was ‘Nice thought but there’s no way, Coulson is much younger than…’ and then I stopped mid-thought.

Because you know what.

You know what.

After Steve, the US government had to keep trying to recreate the Super-Soldier Serum.

And who

and who

would be the FIRST DAMN PERSON IN LINE to volunteer?

They told us it never worked again.  And that was kind of true.  They never again recreated the super-strength or the gleaming pecs.  But other things, they got right.  They got the vastly delayed aging.  And the kind of reflexes that make a man able to take out two armed thugs with a bag of flour.  And the talent for leading through example.  And they got the most important part, Erskine’s favorite part: the magnification of moral fiber, taking the loyalty and selflessness of a loyal and selfless man and making him into something spectacular.

Coulson didn’t buy those vintage cards on Ebay.

He’s had them since he was a little boy.

That little boy right there.

I was surprised at how high-quality the officially licensed Mockingjay pins are so I bought one ($10 at Toys-R-Us though I’m sure you can find it easily online) and had a playdate with my camera.
